CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PIPEBAG
Since 2005, I have been making synthetic fabric bagpipes.
The foles are made of fabric composed of a triple layer. The outer layer is made of thick nylon, which supports the mechanical wear of the fabric. The intermediate layer is a thin plastic sheet, whose property is to let the water vapour molecules pass from the inside to the outside, but without letting the air out. Finally, the inner layer of this fabric is made of nylon mesh, whose function is to protect the intermediate layer from wear and tear, and at the same time, it favours the distribution of the water vapour molecules over the entire surface of the fabric for better evacuation.
The sheets are sewn with three-ply nylon thread, to achieve a union that is resistant to air pressure. In addition, they are thermo-sealed with 22 mm wide triple tape on the inside of the seam, as well as on the outside.
The materials used in the sheets are of European manufacture ensuring the guarantee of the final product from the origin of the raw material.
In addition to the sheets presented on this page, I can also make them to measure, at the customer's request.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE INSTRUMENTS
Instrument hulls:
Built with laminated wood.
Wood finishing: alcohol stains, water-based varnish or wood oil.
Drumheads:
I use natural goat skins and various synthetic patches.
Natural leather is a hydrosensitive material, it reacts to changes in ambient humidity by stretching or contracting. To avoid this being an inconvenience, I incorporate in all my instruments a system of tensioners with which you can modify the tension of the patch.
The syntheticdr, are altered very little by climatic changes. The tuning does not change much once tuned with the tensioners. Therefore, they do not need to adjust their tension as often as natural ones in order to be tuned.
